This charming table lamp from the Austrian lighting manufacturer Kalmar originated in the 1950s. With its shaft made of bamboo, the screen in the form of a cone and celadon-colored painting shows some characteristic Asian features. Thus, the simple type of table lamp with disc-shaped foot, stem and shade, as it occurs thousands of times in Western culture, develops into an original design that is characterized by its simplicity combined with exotic elegance. The table lamp is listed in the J.T. Kalmar lighting catalog 52 as the model 'Karla'.
The lamp has been electrified with a single tube. It is 71 cm high and is in very good condition with minor signs of age and wear. Functioning is not guaranteed.
Kalmar (est. 1880)
The company was founded in 1880 by Julius August Kalmar and was initially specialized in the production of bronze objects. Around the turn of the century the founder's son Julius Theodor Kalmar began to study under the renowned architect and designer Josef Hofmann as well as at the Birmingham School of Art and Design. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, Kalmar Junior led the company into a new direction in the field of modern Austrian interior design with a focus on lightings. (cru)
