Kalmar (est. 1880)
The company was founded in 1880 by Julius August Kalmar and was initially specialized in the production of bronze objects. Around the turn of the century the founder's son Julius Theodor Kalmar began to study under the renowned architect and designer Josef Hofmann as well as at the Birmingham School of Art and Design. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, Kalmar Junior led the company into a new direction in the field of modern Austrian interior design with a focus on lightings.
