Andre Arbus (1903 Toulouse, France – 1969 Paris, France)

A decorator, designer, architect and artist, Andre Arbus interpreted the classical styles of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, creating strong modern interpretations that were instantly successful in Paris and beyond.

Arbus studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and proceeded to work in his father’s cabinetmaker workshop where he modernized the designs being produced. He participated in the ground-breaking 1926 Paris Salons, the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. He moved to Paris in 1932, and by 1935 he had established his own gallery there. He collaborated with artists and manufacturers, creating some of his most extraordinary work. During his career he won numerous awards, designed interiors for ocean liners and municipal buildings, and even designed a jewel cabinet for the then Princess Elizabeth of England.

The House of Veronese (est. 1931)

The House of Veronese, founded in 1931, is a firm with a proud history of bringing together Venetian glass making with the best French design. Their most successful collaboration was with Andre Arbus. Together, they created chandeliers and sconces for prominent residences, Murano glass ceilings for cruise liners and several other important commissions.
