This wonderful compote centerpiece, designed by Archibald Knox, is a classic example of the English Arts & Crafts style. It is an excellent example of the work he produced at Liberty of London.
The shallow bowl of the compote is supported by three freestanding foliate standards. The organic motif continues on to the circular base. Knox and Liberty of London developed their own pewter alloy, for the Tudric line, which included a small amount of silver in the alloy.
This Archibald Knox compote is stamped on the base: “S, Made in England, Tudric Pewter, 01161”. It is in good condition with light scratches on the rim and base and measures 10 ¾” x 10 ¼” (height x diameter).
