This mirror, designed circa 1920 by Oscar Bach, showcases the technical skill of the German born craftsman. The frame comprises eight panels with scrolling foliage overlays and features an openwork crest with theatrical mask. The mirror is designed in an Italian Renaissance Revival style.

The mirror is in good condition with light to moderate losses to the painted surface. It measures 38” x 22 ½” (height x width).

Oscar Bach (1884-1957)

Oscar Bach was born in Breslau, Germany, however, he immigrated to the United States and is considered to be an American designer. Bach is known for his decorative metalwork on a small and grand architectural scale. In his work, Bach often employed the use of mythological and classical figures. Bach studied at the Royal Academy in Berlin, where he underwent a four year apprenticeship in the metal arts and attended the Imperial Academy of Art in Berlin. With his brother Max, Bach opened a metal design studio in Greenwich Village named the Bach Brothers. The business later moved and was renamed Oscar B. Bach Studios, Inc. Some of his commissions included pieces for the Chrysler Building, Temple Emanu-el and the Woolworth Building. Bach won a Medal of Honor from the Architectural League of New York, and some of his work is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
