Unique Whale ivory, ebony, and rosewood inlaid chess table. Made by Walter Lorentzen, American, early 20th c. The square playing surface inlaid with various exotic woods depicting clasped hands, a chess king, a crown, and laurel leaves centering a geometric inlaid whale ivory and ebony chess board. A molded shaped skirt terminating in cabriole legs atop scroll feet. Size: 28" x 26" x 26" (71 x 66 x 66 cm). Provenance: Whaleman Walter Laurentzen came from the Frisian Island of Fohr in the North Sea. Provenance: Kristina Barbara Johnson Estate, Princeton, New Jersey.
