Description
A rare pair of 'Marlborough bucket' boots, English, 1670-1712, of black leather with square toes, stacked heels, rigid legs with centre-front seam and large 'bucket' shaped thigh guards, 79cm, 31in high (2)
Condition
Good condition, leather was restored and old rotting threads removed and re-sewn by the Northampton Shoe Museum and photographs of the restoration are included as well as salvaged old threads. The leather on one boot between the rigid leg section and the upper thigh section is weak where it is creased and needs properly supporting. There are two splits at the centre front of top of ‘gauntlet’ shaped section. The lower section of the boot – the leather has hardened with age but is generally good. Other boot – slight separation between upper and side, the main body of the boot is good condition, leather is very crazed on one side, the ‘gauntlet’ has creased and folded at the front and has hardened into that position. There is a small split centre front top of boot where it meets the ‘gauntlet’
