The present photograph by Josef Polleross depicts a view of the World Trade Center with the black silhouette of Trinity Church, one of New York’s most famous churches, in the foreground. Polleross started his extraordinary career as a photojournalist in the 1980s in New York. The impressive black and white pictures taken by Polleross on his photographic trips through the city mirror his subjective viewpoint of life in New York and made photography history.



The gelatin silver print is titled in pencil ‘World Trade Center’ on verso. The mat is signed ‘Josef Polleross’ lower right as well as titled and dated ‘NYC, World Trade Center, Trinity Church 1980‘s’ lower left in pencil. The print is in very good condition; it is mounted with photo corners under a mat. There are two small inconspicuous surface blemishes to the central church spire. The image size is 34.5 x 23.1 cm and the size of the sheet is 35.5 x 27.9 cm. The mat measures 50 x 40 cm.



Josef Polleross (b. 1963)

Josef Polleross has already lived in New York, Cairo and Bangkok. In the 1980s, he started a career as a photo reporter in cooperation with the photo agency JB-Pictures in New York, which not only let him travel to many places of the world but also resulted in cover pages of many international print media. His photographs for political and social coverages were published e.g. in New York Times, Washington Post, Life, Newsweek, Time, Geo, Stern and Spiegel. A few years ago Polleross has almost entirely turned towards artistic photography. With his triptychs he succeeded in diverse national and international exhibitions, as well as with photo book publications. (tfa)
