This pastel drawing by the Greek painter Pericles Tsirigotis (1865-1924) depicts the portrait of an oriental woman. The young woman seems to be surprised turning towards the observer, placing her hand in a spontaneous gesture to her veil. The artist succeeds in this work with a secure line in this lively portrait with finely executed details in clothing and jewelry.
The pastel drawing is signed lower right ‘P. Tsirigotis’. The sheet is mounted on cardboard and framed. The cardboard shows foxing verso. The dimensions of the depiction are 37 x 48 cm and of the cardboard 38.7 x 49.2 cm. The frame measures 54,5 x 64,7 cm.
Pericles Tsirigotis (1865-1924)
Pericles Tsirigotis was born in Corfu. He studied art under Charlalambos Pachis. Afterwards he continued his education in Naples. He eventually settled in Cairo, where he held classes at the Jesuit College. (tm)
