PIERRE AUGUSTE RENOIR 1841-1919
Limoges 1841 - 1919 Cagnes-sur-Mer (French)
Title: Lying Nude Woman (turning to the right) / Femme Nue Couchée (Tournée à Droite), 1st Plate, 1906
Technique: Original Stamped Signed Etching on wove paper
Paper size: 19.2 x 26 cm / 7.6 x 10.2 in
Plate size: 12.7 x 20 cm / 5 x 7.8 in
Additional Information: This drypoint etching is stamped signed with the Renoir signature stamp at the lower right margin.
This is a fine impression of the first version of this subject.
The plate was never completed but later Renoir re-worked the plate and created the second version of this subject that was finally published in 1909 in Théodore Duret "Die Impressionisten", by B. Cassirer, Berlin.
Our impression however is from the rarer first version that was printed during Renoir lifetime in a smaller edition.
Other impressions from thi editio ncan be found in many museums collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.

Condition: Good condition. Staining on upper margin due to tape adhesive, not affecting the image. Mild wave on lower right corner of image.
