Size: 59.5 x 51.5 cm / 23.4 x 20.3 in
Additional Information: This is an Original Gouache by Raoul Dufy.
It was painted by Dufy for a fabric design for the French silk and textile manufacturer Bianchini Férier in Lyon.
The work is inscribed in the margins by Dufy in pencil with instructions and annotations for the fabric design.
It bears the stamp in ink of RD Bianchini Férier, on the lower left corner of the image.
Note: In 1912 Dufy signed a contract with the French silk firm Bianchini-Ferier, shortly after his first forays into fabric design with clothier Paul Poiret.
After becoming art director at Bianchini-Ferier, Dufy began to fully express and realize his talent for design.
In his time with the firm, Dufy’s “eye” for color, fluid line, and ornamental decoration blossomed in his textiles and became inextricably linked to
his paintings.
It was a seminal time in Dufy’s oeuvre which inspired the artist to develop his signature technique in both his “fine” and decorative works.
This relationship was to last until 1928 and encompassed no less than 4,000 original designs, which represent undoubtedly the most influential oeuvre relative to the Applied Arts in the 20th century.

Condition: Good condition. Layer of surface dirt throughout. Small fold in upper left corner. Tape remains on verso.
