T Picken, lith. Day & Son, Lith to the Queen. Depose Paris, Goupil & Cie. Leipzig, Otto Weigel. Colnaght’s authentic series. Image depicting a battle scene from the Crimean War featuring soldiers fighting and fallen by bridges in the foreground with explosions and gun smoke in the hills in the background, by the Scottish war artist and correspondent, William Simpson (1823-1899). The Battle of the Chernaya (Black River) was fought between the Russian army and combined French, Sardinian and Ottoman (Turkish) troops, won by the allied forces. Good condition, mounted. 33.8x49.6cm (mount 51x67.2cm)
