Mid 19th century, 264 x 113 cm, East Caucasus

Large offset star-shaped blossoms form a striking repeat in the midnight blue field. Small solid crosses have been inserted between the closely spaced large blossoms. The red-ground main border contains a confidently drawn pseudo kufi vine enclosing abstract rosettes. Judging by its patinated colours and quality of drawing, this floral Shirvan was woven ca. 1850. - Slight damage to the sides and corners, good overall condition.
