Description
An Egyptian blue faience bust from a huge ushabti, Late Period, c. 664 - 343 BC, with handsome features, the tripartite headdress is smooth and his false beard is braided, pick and hoe are visible at his shoulders. 3 ½ in x 3 5/8 in (8.9 x 9.2 cm). Mounted on a custom base. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
