Mortar found on private property near the Chattahoochee River in DeKalb County, Georgia; made from Soapstone Ridge rock; approximately 5 1/4"W, 2 3/4"H--Soapstone Ridge is located in the Piedmont region, southeast of Atlanta. About 3,000 BC to 1000 BC, Native Americans quarried the stone from this ridge, carving it into bowls, pipes, and other items.--Lot also includes the book "Georgia's Indian Heritage, The Prehistoric Peoples and Historic Tribes of Georgia", by Max E.
