Philips 369. 5 x 7 5/8 in. 6 5/8 x 7 7/8 at edges of sheet. Italian text on verso right side, plate number ''54.'' First engraved map of South America. Shows the Andes extending from 32 to 8 degrees South, Brazilian highlands from 38 to 15 degrees South. Includes Amazon River (running southwest to northeast), Panamanian Isthmus, Strait of Magellan, Santo Domingo, Tobago, Trinidad, and small portion of coast of western Africa. Later skillful hand-coloring. Near fine, 2 short hinging strips to verso’s upper edge.
