Blank second sheet with a holograph receipt from Kelsey to Dr. E.P. Jones for 1 pair patent steel shank boots. "The early printed advertisement for fine boots made from kangaroo skin is evidence of the flourishing Pan-Pacific trade. The 25 dollar price for boots indicates what settlers and miners were willing and able to pay during the peak years of the Gold Rush. Elbert P. Jones, who came overland in 1846, was the first editor of the California Star and a member fo the first San Francisco council under American jurisdiction. Although a prominent figure in early San Francisco history, he was considered by many to be unscrupulous." (John Howell). Not located by OCLC WorldCat and not listed in the standard bibliographies. Howell Catalogue 50, Part I, No. 73 (this copy).
