Description:
Illustrated election flyer on stiff paper. 14x18 cm. (5¾x7¼").
Rare election flyer designed by and issued by Frederick Head, Prohibition Party candidate for U.S. Congress from California 's Fifth District, ironically centered in northern California 's Wine Country, Napa County and surrounding areas. Head ran for Congress in the district in both 1914 and 1916 but was trounced both times, registering 5.3% of the vote in 1914, and 5.8% in 1916. His flyer supporting prohibition, however, pulled no punches, with pictures of a Saloon, Gambling Hall and Brothel connected with clips, with text stating "The Products of these Industries (?) are: Drunkards, Harlots, Paupers, Insane, Criminals, Murderers, Vagrants, Tramps, Bums, Degenerates, Feeble-Minded, Disease and Death. Are These Necessary to the Prosperity of the State? Vote Yes on Amendments 1 and 2..." Printed in San Francisco. No copies of this flyer are listed in OCLC/WorldCat.
