This 18 karat Victorian demi-parure of earrings and pendant is composed of spherical elements netted in fine chains which fringe drop in tapering pointed finials. The overall design illustrates the Etruscan revival style of the period with the characteristic technique of granulation and applied wire twist work. The demi-parure is in good-fair condition with wear commensurate with age. One earring is missing a chain.
Spurred by the aesthetic for archaeological discoveries at the time, Victorian jewelers explored the revival of ancient and classical design as sources for inspiration. In addition to Renaissance, Roman, and Egyptian styles, Etruscan techniques with detailed granulation and scrolled gold wire work were especially favored after the excavations of tombs in Italy which occurred in the second half of the nineteenth century.
