Description
Pre-columbian Maya Poison Bottle from Guatemala/El Salvador, ca. 600-900 A.D. A medium sized stone metate with the head of an armadillo or peccary. The grinding stone is carved from a dense gray volcanic stone and features a bold animal head with bulging oval eyes, the nose pointed to the ground, ears extending forward, two inward pointed short feet at the end and supporting a slanting flat table above. The underside features a lightly sculpted lip while the top is flat with a mild curvature. (5-3/4" in height x 15-1/2" in length)
