Description
Antique double-edged sword, a variant of the Tesak (Dussack) and Roman Gladius type swords. Possibly made expressly for the Imperial Russian Military, most likely guards or kind of a special forces due to the only four inventory digits (2141) impressed on one side of the hilt. Solid bronze handle and hilt. Steel blade, quite sharp. Comes with it's original black finished thick leather and bronze ends scabbard. Marked by the maker - TALABOT s 1832 PARIS and N in a circle on one side, 2141 number, B over crossed swords and a B in a circle marks on the other. Dates back to the early-mid 1800's, most likely used during the Crimean War (1853-56). Measurements: Approx. 26" long in scabbard, 4" wide at the hilt, 19" long blade
Condition
Crazing and a break in the leather, where it meets the tip. It will need to be reinforced from the inside.
