Elizabeth Harriet Warren, (circa 1760-1826), after Viscountess Bulkeley of Cashel. She married Thomas James Warren-Bulkeley,7th Viscount Bulkeley of Cashel. Her portrait was also painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
Hugh Douglas Hamilton, born in Dublin, was one of the foremost portrait painters in Ireland in the eighteenth-century. He first studied under Robert West before moving to London in 1764, where he soon established himself as one of the most fashionable portrait painters of the day. Usually, he favoured pastel and chalk works, which were normally of an oval format and of small dimensions, typically 9 by 7 inches. These pastel portraits were recognised at the time, for their quality of execution and accuracy in depicting the sitters. Hamilton was patronised by the Royal Family, the aristocracy and politicians of the day. In 1799, Hamilton travelled to Italy where he remained for 12 years. Here he was encouraged by John Flaxman to paint in oil colours. He painted portraits of The Grand Tour visitors to Rome, and local dignitaries, such as Charles Edward Stuart, The Earl Spencer and The Countess Cowper. He returned to Dublin in 1791 and continued to practice as an eminent portrait painter. His sitters included The Earl of Charlemont, The Earl of Clonmel, Richard Dawson, Lord Edward Fitzgerald, and various members of The La Touche Banking Family. His works can be seen in the National Gallery of Ireland, the Ulster Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, London, and the National Gallery of Scotland
