Description
Pair of Hand-Painted Potpourri Vases, third quarter 19th century, probably French, of beaker form, with pierced necks and covers, decorated with applied flowers and gilt-ground panels of hand-painted flowers, marked with an underglaze blue faux Chinese mark in the style of 18th-century Worcester, h. 11", dia. 6".
Condition
Beautiful lot. Old professional restorations and touch-ups throughout to both, most noticeable (without fluorescing) on the reticulated rims. One cover with a pronounced "orange peel" surface. Typical scattered losses to the applied floral elements. Both with deep firing cracks at the interior bottoms, minimized by restoration on the undersides. Richly and identically decorated with lovely detail.
