Description
After John James Audubon (American, 1785-1851), "Great White Heron", No. 57, Plate CCLXXXI, from Birds of America, hand-colored engraving by Robert Havell, the elephant folio watermarked "J. Whatman 1836", sheet size 25-1/4" x 39-5/8". Unframed.
Condition
In overall good condition, retaining good color intensity and professionally restored by Joel Oppenheimer Inc., Chicago, IL. The margins are trimmed with left and right margins fluorescing under UV light. Scattered repairs to lower margin edge which also fluoresce under UV light. UV light exhibits two diagonal, linear repairs to upper left corner; two minor spots in the lower portion of the bird's feathers; one spot in the upper margin edge; a small l-shape inpainting repair to the right portion of print. Minor scattered foxing to lower portion and upper left portion of the print (two yellowish spots in the lower portion of the print). Minor crease to lower edge. Top edges with restorer's tape on the reverse.
