F.D.R. Appoints His Son James Roosevelt as His Attorney: Candidate for Nomination for President of the United States
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1882-1945). Thirty-Second President of the United States, (1933–1945) and a dominant leader of the Democratic Party being the only American President elected to more than two terms in office.
March 9, 1932-Dated, Typed Legal Document Signed, “Franklin D. Roosevelt” as President, 1 page, measuring 18” x 13”, mimeographed and filled in with black ink upon Notarized Stationery, to his son James Roosevelt of Cambridge, Crisp Very Fine. It is Time-stamped at 11:52 on March 22, 1932 with signature and notary stamp of Irene McKenna. There are two hole punches on upper right corner, having a small modest stain away from any text, and folds. Here. F.D.R. appoints his son, James Roosevelt, as his true and lawful attorney for a very special Political purpose, stating in full:
“KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS that I, Franklin D. Roosevelt, of the town of Hyde Park, County of Dutchess, in the State of New York, do hereby appoint and constitute James Roosevelt, of Cambridge, in the State of Massachusetts, my true and lawful attorney in fact for me and in my name to give written assent and file the same with the Secretary of State of Massachusetts to candidates for delegates and alternate delegates at large and from districts to the Democratic National Convention, to state their preference for me as a candidate for nomination for President of the United States; the power hereunto given being given with the intention that said attorney may exercise all the rights that I might personally exercise under the provisions of Section 68 of Chapter 53 of the General Laws of Massachusetts.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have set my hand Seal this 9th day of March, 1932. --- (Signed) Franklin D. Roosevelt”.
Noted along the border margin is, “Delegates, Dem. Nat. Convention -”. The signature, “Franklin D. Roosevelt” is extremely bold, very purposefully written in deep dark brown ink and measuring a very large 3” long such that it is quite prominent. A rare, very historical and important Political Signed Legal Document.
