July 1796-Dated. 1st Edition. Leather Bound Book of Speeches by President GEORGE WASHINGTON to the United States Congress, printed at Boston, by Manning and Loring, Very Good.
This very rare 1st Edition and fully intact, 282 pages, complete and measures approximately 7” x 4.75”. Properly entitled: “Collection Of The SPEECHES Of The President of the United States To Both Houses of Congress, At the Opening of Every Session, With Their ANSWERS. Also, The ADDRESSES to the PRESIDENT, With Their ANSWERS, From The Time Of His Election:...”. Original leather covered hard covers are intact on this collection of the first speeches of the President of the United States to both houses of Congress. It was printed at Boston, by Manning and Loring, for Solomon Cotton, Junior, bookseller and stationer, sold by him at his bookstore, no. 51, Marlborough-Street, July 1796. This 1st Edition includes the opening of every Session, with answers of Congress. Also, are the addresses to the President, with his answers, from the time of his election, and with an appendix, containing the Circular Letter of General Washington to the governors of the several states, and his Farewell orders, to the armies of America, and the answer. This book is dedicated to the Citizens of the United States of America, and published according the Act of Congress.

This rare find includes the List of Subscribers names "that were received in season for inclusion,'' as well as booksellers advert on the last leaf, page 283. Paginates complete, with all blanks, (xii, [1], 14-282, [2] p.). This copy has sustained some actual use damage to the leather cover, as part of the spine leather is chipped or lacking, with the last 75 or so pages somewhat loosened, with some staining. A few instances of edgewear as well, but this copy remains complete and unmarked. An ideal contender for rebinding with its original label retained.
