Impressive Decorative Eagle & Flags Militia Hat Plate
c. 1820, Ornate Miltia Hat Plate, Pressed Brass, Decorated with American Heraldic Eagle, Cannons, Spears, Flags with Stars Surrounding, With Mounting Loop, Choice Extremely Fine.
This original, Pressed Brass Militia Hat Plate, is probably from an early Connecticut Militia unit. It measures a large size of 5” x 6.25”. The Shield-shaped brass plate is deeply embossed with a most impressive early design of an American Spread-wing Eagle upon a Shield, surrounded by a panoply of arms, with decorative outer stared border. The original Mounting Loop is still intact on reverse. Great natural rich patina with some waviness and light use. Perfect for display. Provenance: Said to be Ex: Bill Guthman.
