These covered peach form boxes both depict a sage riding a donkey with an attendant following him traveling through a landscape with knotted pines and craggy rocks against a ground of diaper lozenge. The boxes are framed with an interior border of relief carved peaches and foliage, a lotus meander on the sides and shaped foliage reserves. Each foot is lined in a lappet band.
There is heavy wear to the foot ring and the interior rims, light age wear and some splitting in the cinnabar typical with age. Otherwise no apparent losses and the covers still fit nicely. The boxes measure 4 ¾ x 8 ¾ x 8 ½ in. and 5 x 8 ¾ x 8 in. (height x width x depth).
