Elegant Empire coffee pot made by the silversmith family Bateman

Peter and Ann Bateman were members of a London silversmith family, who also worked with Ann's son William from 1800. Bateman silver works are today part of important museum collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The present coffee pot from 1795 strikes with its high and elegant shape. The encircling finely engraved flowers and geometric patterns are especially beautiful. As well, the engraved crest with a griffin and the banner ‘PRO DEO ET Ecclesia’ (for God and the church), referring to the pious owners, the Bishop family, are of particular note.

The coffee pot is in good overall condition, showing some small dents through use. The overall height, including the lid, is 28.5 cm, and the overall weight is about 811 grams.
