Long and stepped fender with projecting end pieces, consisting of rectangular bases with crowned lions, holding a gilt ball under one paw; bases adorned with gilt decoration of winged quivers with arrows
Next to the end pieces volutes with applied gilt rosette, flowers and foliage

A magnificent Second Empire andiron with practical adjustable size mechanism, A splendid addition to any fireplace.
The present French 19th century bronze andiron is attractive in its decor. It also features a practical screwed construction, which is adjustable in length and therefore adaptable to the fireplace. The long stepped bar has projecting end pieces with rectangular bases, which are crowned by a lion holding a ball under one paw. The bases are adorned with a decorative gilt applique of two winged quivers with arrows. Next to the end pieces, there are scrolls with applied gilt rosettes, flowers and foliage.
The andiron is in good condition, showing light wear marks. One screw is overwound. The compressed length is about 134.5 cm, and the completely extended length of the andiron is approximately 148 cm.
