This splendid gilt-brass Maison Marquis Languerau splendid pendulum clock was made in the 19th century in Paris. It is fitted with a round Marti pendulum movement, with a spring balancer and a lever escapement with 8 day duration. The bell strikes on the half hour. Roman hours and Arabic minutes are shown on the bossed enameled dial. The gilt-brass hands are delicately sawn and the tip of the minute hand finishes off in the shape of a filigree dolphin. The lunette is glazed bossed. Above four feet and a proliferated base the Ormolu case rises, which is decorated with a variety of finely worked ornate elements like rosettes, bows, acanthus, volutes, eagle’s heads, festoons with oak foliage and fruit and culminates in a top in the shape of a vase. Matching the clock, of the same excellent quality there is a pair of marvelous gold-plated girandoles that are each fitted with four candle sleeves and are also richly decorated with foliage, grains, festoons, volutes and fruit.

The dial is signed with the marks ‘MSON MARQUIS / Languereau / PARIS’. The movement is marked with ‘MEDAILLE DE BRONZE S. Marti et Cie’ and ‘LANGUEREAU PARIS’ as well as the numbers ‘699’ and ‘9 2’. Included is a key. Pendulum clock and candelabras are in a very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. The case dimensions are approx. 58 x 42 x 19 cm. Each girandole measures 64.5 cm in height. During in house testing the clock was fully functional. Long term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed. (nlu)
