This wardrobe trunk by the luxury brand Louis Vuitton is a timeless classic. It was manufactured around 1930 in Paris. It was made for upright use and shows the typical all-over monogram canvas pattern. On many parts there is the original signature, but no serial number is noticeable. On each side one original green owner’s monogram ‘C. S. O.’ and an all-over painted green ribbon for an easy identification as well as an old ‘Glass. Handle with care’ paper label are visible. The wardrobe trunk features leather edges, brass rivets as well as corners and angles mounted with brass. It has a solid closure with original Louis Vuitton locks (the key is missing). Wooden struts serve to stiffen the case and large brass knobs enable the upright installation. The case is lined in orange and beige on the inside. On the right side of the trunk are six drawers with leather handles that can be centrally locked with the upper drawer. The upper drawer is divided by compartments. The top left can be folded up and a chromed coat rack rod with ten original signed Louis Vuitton labels can be folded out. Below is inserted a separate removable case for toiletries, which is fitted with leather Louis Vuitton label, leather fastening straps and a leather handle.

The steamer wardrobe trunk is in a good original overall condition with slight signs of age and wear and a very good patina. It is clean on the outside and inside. The leather handles on the outside are a later addition and on the inside the leather handle of one drawer is ripped, but present. The leather frame for the outside label is damaged. The height of the suitcase is 110 cm, the width is 65 cm and the depth is 55 cm.

Louis Vuitton (since 1854)

Louis Vuitton (1821-1892) started his training as a bag maker at suitcase manufacturer Monsieur Maréchal in 1837 in Paris. This was essential in times of rough luggage transport on carriages, steam boats or trains. He opened his own shop in 1854 under the name of Louis Vuitton Malletier in Rue Neuve-des-Capucines 4. His modern dirt-resistant and waterproof products were of such good quality, that they were soon in high demand. The frameworks of the trunks were made from wood and metal constructions. In 1886, Georges Vuitton (1857-1936), son of the company’s founder, invented the revolutionary locking system that is still used today. The patentedTumber Lock protects the trunk’s content from theft with an innovative locking system with two spring caps. When Louis Vuitton died in 1892, Georges took over the company. It was him who designed and established the iconic LV monogram. The luxury brand is popular worldwide and is one of the leading companies of the world of fashion.
