GERSHWIN GEORGE: (1898-1937) American Composer & Pianist. D.S., George Gershwin, being a signed cheque, New York, 30th March 1933. The partially printed cheque is drawn on The National City Bank of New York and is made payable to R H Macy & Co. for the sum of $32.25. Signed by Gershwin in bold, dark fountain pen ink. A small circular bank cancellation only slightly touches two letters of the signature. Together with Ira Gershwin (1896-1983) American Lyricist who collaborated with his younger brother George Gershwin. A.L.S., Ira Gershwin, one page, oblong 8vo, Beverly Hills, California, 18th January 1957, to Miss. Madge Rogers. Gershwin thanks his correspondent for her kind letter about his brother and the Gershwin songs and continues 'I am happy to be able to enclose one of his canceled (sic) bank checks which you can keep as is, or from which you can cut his actual signature…'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Gershwin. VG, 2
