Folio (307x210 mm), contemporary limp vellum with handwritten title at spine, traces of ancient handwriting words at boards, ff. [6], pp. 511, [1, printer device], ff. [54]. Title page red and black (lightly browned) with Giunti’s printer device, repeated at colophon. Fine xylographic headpieces and tailpieces.

A work of considerable modernity, also because Gaito tried to overcome the prejudices of his times, related to the earnings from money loan, that were considered, at discretion, usury and on which the ecclesiastical power put many limits that could end in excommunication.

Giandomenico Gaito (1626-1662) was an Italian jurist born in Forino, Basilicata. Graduated in utroque jure, he successfully was a lawyer in Naples earning the grade of auditor.
