PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION REFORM IN PAPAL STATES
[Administration, Papal States] Pope Pius VII. Moto proprio della Santità di nostro Signore Pio Papa VII. In data de' 6. Luglio 1816. sulla organizzazione dell'amministrazione pubblica esibito negli atti del Nardi segretario di Camera nel dì 14. del mese ed anno suddetto. Roma: presso Vincenzo Poggioli Stampatore della Rev. Cam. Apost., w.d. (but 1816).
4to (cm 27 x 20); contemporary limp coloured paperboard (binding a bit loose); pp. 62, (2, b.), 65, (1, b.), (2), 12, 20, 31, (1, b.), 7, (1, b.); text in Italian.

A very rare edict on the reform of public administration introduced by Pope Pius VII in the Papal States, bound with an interesting collection of regulations, issued on 1816.
The edict includes instructions on governative organization, tribunal organization, laws dispositions, fiscal organization and reports at annex a tablesheet with the territorial organization of the Papal States and the census of every single location in the Papal States.
Other works included in the volume: rules for appeals regarding the new territorial organization; rules on documents' storage; rules on mortgage system; rules on statements of accounts.
Pope Pius VII (1742–1823), born Barnaba Niccolò Maria Luigi Chiaramonti, was Pope from 1800 to his death in 1823.
Ercole Consalvi (1757–1824) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church, who served twice as Cardinal Secretary of State for the Papal States.
Luigi Ercolani (1758–1825) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church, who served as treasurer-General for the Papal States.
Provenances: Handwritten inscriptions D. Lorenzo Alessandri at verso of first fly-leaf, followed by other names partially readable (among them, Bartoluzzi).
