Description
Solid cast bronze door knocker. Royal coat-of-arms up top with Gothic architectural elements from the Chester Cathedral in England. A rendition of the mythical Chester Imp creature. A folk legend exists about this grotesque creature. Centuries ago, during the construction of the nave of the Cathedral, a priest was startled by the sight of a demonic face looking at him through one of the windows. He took it to be Satan himself, who has come to investigate this latest fortress against his dark powers. Prompt action was taken, and stonemasons were ordered to carve an equally-ugly image and mount it where, should the Devil dare to look in again, he would be frightened away. Marked with a Registry Number: 539012, or so. This can date it back to circa 1909. Measurements: 6" x 2.3"
