The Tuscan winegrowing region of Chianti, home to Chianti red wine, is a heterogenic wine-growing area with truly diverse geological and geographical landscapes and wine styles. Chianti therefore reveals many different faces and wine qualities. Chiantis are cuvées made using various grape varieties, mainly Sangiovese. The Chianti region is divided into seven DOCG sub-regions, with some of the finest, most long-lasting growths come from Chianti Classico and Rufina: Chianti Classico DOCG is produced in the historic part of Tuscany, between Florenz and Siena. It must be matured in oak barrels for at least a year, Chianti Classico Reserva for two. The grape variety proportions in cuvee are also set by wine authorities: Sangiovese makes up at least eighty percent of the wine. White wine grapes, formerly commonplace, are no longer allowed. Chianti Rufina DOCG thrives in the northeast of the Chianti region, east of Florence. Vines grow in clay, sandstone and marl soils. Top quality Chianti is produced here that stands out due to its longevity and concentration. Chianti Superiore DOCG is the term for Chianti wines produced in the entire Chianti wine region, excepting the Chianti Classico area. Wines may only be sold after being matured for a minimum of nine months, three of which must have been after bottling.

The 2004 vintage Casello di Ama was rated 90 points by Antonio Galloni in 2007.

The fill level is excellent (into neck). The label is slightly damaged; the original wooden case and capsule are in perfect condition.
