The cassette is a carving work of the early 16th century and presumably was made in the German-speaking region. The straight walnut body with slightly projecting base and lid is shod at the corners with iron bands and accompanied by dovetails. A vegetable-carving decorated with leafy vines surrounding a cartridge on the front of the casket. The lid with wooden decorative nailing as also the front shows the original fitting work. The inside shows a compartment split-off. Small caskets, chests and cabinets were used for storage and representation of collected curiosities.
The late gothic casket is in very good original condition and shows a beautiful patina. It has the usual traces of age and wear. On the front of the lid has a slight but inactive worm infestation. There is a small blemish on the cartridge. The casket measures 20.5 x 48.5 x 31.5 cm. (bed)
