Gothic mortar with a typical handle, also known as stab handle
This is a Gothic bronze mortar, which was probably manufactured around 1460 in Germany. It has a bell-shaped body with a slightly projecting mouth edge and stands on a flared and triple ribbed ring base. The body is three times ripped beneath the mouth ring. The rectangular handle is fitted with three crossbars. The mortar has a nice patina of age and is provided with a pestle.
The piece is in good condition, showing slight calcification marks and cracks as well as traces of oxidation inside. The height of the mortar is 14.2 cm, and the diameter is 14 cm. The length of the pestle measures 22 cm. (cko)
