This is a rolling ball clock, which was manufactured in Germany in the 20th century after a patent by Sir William Congreve from the year 1808. The rolling ball clock consists of brass and marble and stands on four ball feet. On a marble plinth rises the square frame, on that are four columns, carrying the skeletonized clock. The clock is covered by a glass case. There are three white enamel chapter rings with display of second, minute and hour, Arabic and Roman numbers and blackened dials. The clock is equipped with an eight-day-movement. A small steel ball is running down an oblique zigzag track and switches the running ball board over at the lower end. Sir William Congreve developed the clock in 1808. It seems as if he did not know that a rolling ball clock had already been developed by Nicolas Grollier de Servière and Johann Sayller. However, his technique differs.

The rolling ball clock is in very good functional condition. The overall dimensions, including the showcase, are 43 x 38 x 38 cm. (tm)
