Miniature spinning wheel of aristocratic origin that delights with the finest turnery and noble materials
This fine spinning wheel was most likely manufactured around 1800 in Germany. The yarn is spindled on a role through a lead wheel with an ebony crank. The construction of the spinning wheel presents the finest turnery and is a work of art itself. The wooden base shows engraved mother of pearl and wood inlays and is as well of particular note. The figural scene in the center features Christian symbols such as shepherd, victory banner, grave, cross, lamb, lily and dove. Such spinning wheels were used particularly in the 18th century in France by aristocratic ladies for entertainment in the salon and operated with silk.
The spindle is in very good condition, showing minor wear marks. The spinning wheel is 19 x 27 x 9 cm in size. (cko)
