Loudon Snowden, (1835-1912, Chief Coiner of Philadelphia Mint, 1866-'77, later Superintendant) LS on stationery, Sept. 26, 1870, presenting Jay Cooke (1821-1905, Civil War financier, central figure in establishment of national currency) with a medal for the completion of the Pacific Railroad; together with an ANS of Charles D. Barney (1884-1945, Cooke's son-in-law, and a financier, founder of firm now known as Smith Barney); seven flyleaves from books bearing Barney's signature, and a few pieces of ephemera relating to the family home at Elkins Park, PA
