Description
An Important 18th Century George III Period Painted Four-Post Tester Bed, Ex. Collection of Pamela Harriman. Purchased in May of 1997 from a Sotheby's auction that was exclusively items from The Estate of Ambassador Pamela Harriman; Mrs. Harriman had purchased the bed through famed New York interior decorator Billy Baldwin. Harriman, English Socialite turned Political Activist and Diplomat, is most famously remembered as Winston Churchill's Daughter-in-Law, and was later appointed Ambassador to France by President Bill Clinton. The Arched tester bed consists of a Stylized pendent border with painted floral garland decoration, with cluster-column foot posts enhanced by carved leaf motifs, all ending on square bases. Original painted finish with wear and minor damage, replaced Silk hangings and upholstery. 5' 11” wide x 6' 6” deep x 7' x 3” high. ESTIMATE $8,000-12,000
