An attractive Persian earring in the form of a lion, 17th Century, of high carat gold, the body decorated with twisted wire rings over a solid sheet and augmented with granules and wire. The face also with soldered twisted wire and to small ears protruding above two large eyes, each with a faceted pink sapphire (modern replacement) with a white gold rim. The wire is extremely well-made with functional mechanism. 7.5 x 2.9 cm. 5.52g. Mounted on a custom stand. Intact and quite solid! Ex Midwest private collection.
