Description
This painting won the gold medal for oil painting at the 1971 exhibition of the American Artists Professional League. It was painted by Pennsylvania artist and illustrator Van Clark Clemenson (1910-) and is signed on the front and dated 1965. The original exhibition entry form is still attached to the back of the frame. The painting is a detailed, dark interior scene of what appears to be an abandoned rural cabin. There are quirky details, like a jug and tipped bottle on the floor, but the overall effect is that this is a work by an artist of the Andrew Wyeth school. The painting is done in polymer (acrylic) and is an early example of work in this medium. It seems that in the exhibition there was no distinction between oil and acrylic paintings, and although there has been disagreement among oil painting purists, acrylic paintings continue to share the oil painting category in contemporary exhibitions. The painting is in good condition and is being sold as-found, in its original faux-wormed barnwood frame. The backing paper should be replaced, but it has been left as-is so the label would not be disturbed. The canvas-board size is 18"x24" and the overall frame size is 23"x29" Item ID: 4068B Fixed Price Shipping & Insurance on this item =$47.00
