This impressive, Sino Tibetan bronze figure of bodhisattva Amit?yus shows partly polychrome painting. The bodhisattva Amit?yus is a form of the Buddha Amit?bha, but there is one difference: Amit?yus is the Buddha of Infinite Life and Amit?bha is the Buddha of Infinite Light. They are reflective images of each other and symbolize longevity and wisdom. This figure shows Amit?yus seated on a double lotus pedestal, which bears on the reverse a Chinese six character mark. The bodhisattva is rendered inpadmasana with the soles of his feet turned upwards. His hands form the dhy?na mudra, the gesture of meditation. He is holding an ambrosia vase filled with amrita, the nectar of immortality. An Ashoka-tree branch, the tree of life, is seen on top.

The hips of the deity are covered with a robe, showing floral ornaments in high relief. The bodhisattva is adorned with opulent jewelry and wears a five-leaf crown on his head, which symbolizes the reign of the five elements. The finely engraved hair behind the crown forms a high topknot and fine strains of his hair cover his shoulders. Amit?yus lips form a slight smile and waving ribbons are falling over his arms. The figure is sealed with a base plate.

The bronze figure is in good condition with a natural patina and merely light traces of age and wear, such as gold and paint abrasion in some areas as well as little loss of material on the topknot. The figure measures 41 cm in height, 23 cm in width and 19.5 cm in depth.
