Carved Songhua ink stone, in a fitten green-brown stone box
China, Qing dynasty (1644-1911)
Rare inkstone in three parts
The striated, greenish stone has a slight recess at the top and a rectangular area well to grind the inkstick with water
Four-character Kangxi mark on the back
Archaistic pattern on top of the ink stone
Decorated with archaic bands in the Huai style
Lotus flower at the recess
On the back an inscription ‘silence leads to eternity’ and the seal mark ‘Kang Xi Chen Han’ ????
Open work lid with archaistic decoration

Condition: The three-part inkstone set is in very good condition with hardly any signs of wear, consistent with age. Small nicks and scratches are visible here and there. The inkstone measures 13.5 cm in height, 9.5 cm in width and 3 cm in depth and the total weight is 867 grams.
