Delicate shabti in the typical form of a mummy, which represents the deceased in the ancient Egypt
Ever since the New Kingdom (circa 1550-1070 BC), the shabtis served as burial objects. They featured the name of the deceased in order to function as his deputy during the Judgment of the Dead, when his name was invocated. If the deceased, for example, was asked to till the fields, the shabti had to say: ‘Here I am’ (Chapter 6 of the Book of the Dead). The shabti was depicted with tools in its hand, in order to be able to accomplish the work assigned to the deceased.
The figure is in good condition considering its age. The height is 11 cm. (cko)
