Large characteristic shabti with finely embossed hieroglyphs
The present shabti dates from the 26th dynasty of Egypt (664-525 BC). The statuette served as a burial object. It shows the characteristic mummy shape and impresses particularly with the decorative hieroglyphs. Ever since the New Kingdom of Egypt (circa 1550-1070 BC), the shabtis were regarded as servant figures that have been invocated to do various labors for the deceased, especially in the field of farming. The flails in the hands of the shabti refer to this function.
The figure is in good condition considering its age, showing a loss to the upper head. The height of the figure is 20.5 cm. (cko)
