Description
Chinese, 19th century, possibly earlier. Collection of two similar but unmatched horizontally-aligned pith paintings of birds comprising of one with four grey and black birds with white claws perched and flying amid branches with pink to orange floral blossom clusters; and one with five black and brown birds perched and flying amid branches with yellow flowers or fruit. Both unsigned and contained within matching frames. Certificate of authencitiy labels on verso of frames from Eugene Okarma, Atlanta, Georgia with information on the works and stating they are (according to Eugene Okarma) circa 1770. Framed approximately 12.5" x 17.25". Sight size approximately 7.25" x 11.9".
Condition
Both pith paintings not examined out of frame so as to not disrupt their integrity. Painting with darker feathered birds with tear at top, visible losses at center (see photos) and scattered dark spots. Other painting with tear in upper right corner and scattered dark spotting. Paintings likely laid down.
